Bio
Professor Catherine Tien-Lun SUN was born in Shanghai, raised in Hong Kong, and received her university education in the States. Catherine underwent her training in psychoanalysis in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and has a doctorate in community medicine from the University of Hong Kong. She was in private practice in the 80’s and 90’s, and returned to the academia in 2001. Currently, she is the head of the Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (http://www.hksyu.edu/counpsy/). She founded the Asian Professional Counselling Association (APCA) in 2002, and played an instrumental role in starting its official journal, the Asia Pacific Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy published by Routledge in 2010. In 2008, Catherine, together with a few friends who are dedicated to enhancing the professionalism of counselling, founded the Asia Pacific Rim Confederation of Counsellors (APRCC).
Catherine is dedicated to building a body of knowledge that can be uniquely identified as Chinese Psychology. Her latest book is the second edition of Themes in Chinese Psychology published in 2013 by Cengage (Asia). Her other writing projects include creating texts in counselling and psychology for Asian students.
